「風が吹く.. 歌も聞こえる.. 日和来る..」
That was a simple note written on a silk by her father on the day Narasaki Hiyori was born. If you ask the people on that area, on that day, everyone will say that the sky was blue as it can be, and the wind blows softly and gently, shows a very good weather. A perfectly good weather on the supposedly gloomy autumn weather, which is uncommon since autumn is always full of clouds. The elder of the Narasaki clan said it shows that she was a special one, a gifted one, which then proofed to be right somehow, she was believed as an ‘incarnation of God’. By that, her father, Narasaki Shosuke, the leader of the Narasaki clan, decided to gave her the name [Hiyori] which means weather, with a hope she will be like the weather on her born day: a soothing, soft, gentle weather which gives everyone a good feeling.
Narasaki family is one of the clan of the shugo-daimyo in Yamato. This family was well known to be a family of the ‘incarnation of God’ through centuries. The family was known for its love in beauty or art and somewhat their medical expertise, although their medical expertise is less known then their love toward beauty. Among the Narasaki family are famous poets, artist, and writes, and so on in Yamato. Just as the other samurai family, Narasaki family also known for their swordplay. Although, instead of saying they are good in swordplay, it is more like they want to show the beauty of a sword through their art of swordplay. Their love toward beauty sometimes makes them look like a weird samurai. They can stand still for hours just to see how water flows beautifully. Or to see how rain pours turn into beautiful rainbow. Or to see how a blade of a katana can shines under the full moonlight. Which some people think that as their way of meditating. In the other hand, their expertise in medical field is not much known. Only those who know this family well can see this virtue of the family.
Hiyori was born as the first and oldest daughter of Shosuke and his wife, Ryoko. Both of her parents are also believed to be ‘incarnation of God’ which makes Narasaki family one of the well-known shugo-daimyo family. Ever since she was born, Hiyori was believed will be Shosuke’s successor, so she was always treated special. So special, to the point of everyone was overprotecting her, even the citizen near her, which gave her a suffocating feeling. But as the daughter of a shugo-daimyo family, she hides her feeling as best as she can, and learn how to be the successor of the family.
During her days, learning all about how to be the best successor, sometimes, Hiyori stares at the window and saw birds come and go. Which somehow gave her an envious feeling, how she wants to like them, flying free from all the things around her which makes her feel like a caged bird. Ever since, she draws more and more interest in birds, which somehow gave her some dream, to go away from all around her.. To be free.. Although, she knows deep inside, that’s only a false dream.. Which will never come true..
「手を動く…奇麗に見える…鳥のよう…」
Just like the other Narasaki family member, Hiyori was an excellent artist in Yamato. She was known for her art skills, especially dance and playing fue under her stage-name [Toki]. So good that sometimes even the nobles beneath the Narasaki family calls her to perform for them during high court events. But differs from the others in her family, she was not that interested in swordplay. She prefers using fan just like when she was dancing. Although she’s not the best swordsman in Narasaki family, she is still one of the best in her dojo. But she prefers not using her sword unless it is necessary, since she always think that using her sword recklessly will only taint the beauty of her sword.
When Hiyori was 7 and 10 years old, her mother gave birth to a second and third daughter, Miyuki and Yumi. Somehow, seeing there is another ‘successor to be’ in line, Hiyori starting to show that she was not interested in taking the successor of the Narasaki family. Apparently, the family’s elder keep on saying that Hiyori must be the leader of the family. Feeling her dreams was an impossible thing to reach; she closed her heart and do as best as she can to learn how to be a true Narasaki. Although, during sometimes, when she feel everything is too much for her, she will flew from her house to spend some time for herself.. Watching the birds fly somewhere out of the castle while enjoying the view.. Or try to blend with the crowd as a ‘normal’ performer..
「便り来た…外国人来る…守るべき…」
On her 17th, suddenly, Hiyori sees something that can make her dream to be free come true.. There is a contact from a newly known area called Silvarion. These foreigners came to the land of Yamato and start the communication between these two countries. It was said that the building of relationship can mean much to Yamato, since Yamato never known anything about this new kingdom. And somehow, some people believe that this can also be some threat to the kingdom.
Hiyori, now a young lady, propose her name to her father to go to Silvarion as an eye for Yamato Empire. She said that, although they maybe have send a lot of people from Yamato as ‘eyes’ toward the kingdom, some matters may not be known by common people. So it was also important to see the kingdom itself through the eye of a noble. And that since Narasaki family is a known performers, they can always said that they are performer from Yamato when asked in Silvarion.
At first, Shosuke and Ryoko were resistant about this proposal. But seeing that what Hiyori said might be true, they decided to let her go. With this, Hiyori grabs her stuffs, some dictionary on how to speak in Silvarion, and run toward her ‘short’ freedom. To fly away from the Narasaki family, and also Yamato Empire, like a free bird. Although she knows, that she will never be that free, since whatever she do, wherever she go, she will still be a noble from the Narasaki family.
Then.. Time flies.. Slowly.. Bringing her closer toward Silvarion Kingdom.. To some place named Golden Wing Guild which somehow heard by the family as an open place for mercenaries from all over the place, where she won’t be suspicious to be there..
And so.. The journey of [Toki], will begin..
